_"GOOD TIDINGS AND TRIMMINGS" CHRISTMAS INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR, ALEX MACLEAN

Thank you again for donating a book for our 1st annual "Good Tidings & Trimmings" e-book Giveaway! What book or books did you donate, tell us more about them. I donated my debut novel, Grave Situation.

Halifax cop Allan Stanton is a troubled homicide detective who has lost everything, including his family and his sense of justice. When he finally decides to leave the force and start over, he's assigned a string of murders that all bear the signs of a serial killer collecting trophies. As Stanton unravels each grisly crime scene, the mounting evidence points uncomfortably close to him, forcing him to confront a past he'd rather forget--and a dangerous future when the killer targets Stanton himself.

What is your favorite thing about the holiday season and what does Christmas mean to you?

Christmas means getting together with family and friends. Over the years, I’ve lost loved ones close to the holidays so Christmas is really bittersweet for me now. I find it fills me with sadness and nostalgia.

What is your favorite holiday memory?

I have many. Most of which are from my childhood. My mother was a single-mom who brought up two boys while working at a menial job. We never had much, but she always made sure Christmas was special for us. I never forgot that. She would allow my brother and me to open one gift on Christmas Eve. This of course only added to the excitement of the next morning.

Do you still have any of the toys you got when you were a kid?

No.

How do you celebrate the holidays?

I spend it with friends and family. On Christmas day, my family gets together for dinner. It’s a good time.

Do you still believe in Santa Claus?

Yes, of course.

A lot of people get that warm, fuzzy feeling around this time of year, are you one of those people?

Not really.

Have you ever gone caroling or wanted to?

No, I haven’t and I don’t sing very well.

If you had a choice of the perfect weather for Christmas would it be cold and snowy, or warm and sunny?

Cold and snowy, but only for Christmas. 
