GOOD TIDINGS & TRIMMINGS" CHRISTMAS INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR, ANDREW D. CARLSON

Thank you again for donating a book for our 1st annual "Good Tidings & Trimmings" e-book Giveaway! What book or books did you donate, tell us more about them.

I donated Sue’s Fingerprint; an Earth-based sci-fi story of humans cloned from alien goo. It’s a story of new people copied from others by a sticky-substance that arrives on Earth from outer space.

Fearing an ‘alien attack’, DHS orders the new people to be contained. When they learn about themselves and the world around them, while isolated on an abandoned military base, the clones receive a message. One clone, Sue, decides she must deliver it and escapes from the base. During the recovery of Sue, the assigned DHS director learns the true motivation of the new people and has to make a life-changing decision. Find out what happens!

What is your favorite thing about the holiday season and what does Christmas mean to you?

The meaning and favorite thing are the same; spending time with family and appreciating all that we have.

What is your favorite holiday memory?

Sneaking downstairs with my sisters at 5:30 a.m. to dump out our stockings to see what Santa brought. After skimming the contents, we’d re-pack the stockings so our parents wouldn’t know. It wasn’t until we were all adults that we told them. They never knew.

Do you still have any of the toys you got when you were a kid?

No. Those gifts are long gone.

How do you celebrate the holidays?

I celebrate the holidays with my immediate family. We prepare and eat good food, watch movies and football, and play games together.

Do you still believe in Santa Claus?

I did as a child but, alas, empirical data tell me otherwise.

A lot of people get that warm, fuzzy feeling around this time of year. Are you one of those people?

Not so much. I’m not a Grinch, but I don’t get overly fuzzy either.

Have you ever gone caroling or wanted to?

Yes, I did. My sisters and I were very musical. We would visit nursing homes, day care centers, etc. and sing carols. We did this for a few years in our teens.

If you had a choice of the perfect weather for Christmas would it be cold and snowy, or warm and sunny?

Cold and snowy is true Christmas weather—I have fond memories of growing up with white Christmases, but I now prefer the sun and warmth of California. (Flying and driving in snow & ice really sucks.)
